The Combustion Institute is an international, non-profit, educational and scientific society. Our purpose is to promote and disseminate research in all areas of combustion science. The biennial International Symposium on Combustion is the major meeting of the membership. We also promote activities within the 34 sections and encourage collaboration between these sections. The Institute also sponsors two scientific journals, Combustion and Flame, published monthly and The Proceedings of The Combustion Institute, published biennially.

The Combustion Institute continues the policy initiated early in its history of assisting scientists and students to attend the biennial symposia through grants and other aids such as arranged lectures or consultations. This assistance has proved extremely beneficial to its recipients and to combustion science by strengthening international professional and scientific interactions.

The Combustion Institute interests embrace a wide field of scientific activity not covered by the activities of other scientific societies and is dedicated to the support of this important field of study that cuts across many scientific and engineering disciplines.
